PROGRAMMING : GATHERING INFORMATION

Architecture is a collaboration between architects, clients, sites and materials; yet long after the architect departs, the client, site and new structure remain. In order to ensure our buildings are successful expressions of our client's desires, we begin each project by learning as much as possible about you and the elements that will contribute to the project.

We generally begin by interviewing you; listening to you describe your needs, dreams, and patterns of living. You may be asked to convey moods you are looking to capture, materials and textures you like, and may find it helpful to provide us with drawings or photographs of spaces or houses you admire.

Concurrently, we take note of site peculiarities and nuances, study the advantages of the local building microclimate, and begin our research of material availability.

During programming, we spend time with you determining how your current space is adapted to the way you live now, so we understand how future changes will suit your needs more directly. We are also attentive to how you might change the way you live in the future. This information gives us the knowledge to create spaces that are uniquely yours. We strive to create spaces you would create for yourself if you had the expertise and training. At the end of the programming stage, we will prepare a list of intentions and rough sketches of spatial adjacencies specifically derived from you and your site.
