CAPI Immigrant opportunity center

CAPI, founded in the 1980s to support Asian and Pacific Islander immigrants, now serves diverse communities, including Afghan refugees in the Twin Cities. Their mission—guiding immigrants toward self-determination and social equality—aligns with Locus Architecture’s values. Our collaboration reimagined their site and program, reducing the planned 16,000 sq ft addition to 10,000 sq ft while meeting future needs.

The project includes a multi-use community space, integrated office and training areas, a tech lab, renovated food shelf, and a solar-ready roof. Sustainable features include pervious pavement, rainwater harvesting, and a greenhouse for culturally appropriate food. Locus led all phases from predesign to construction administration, including FFE coordination. Construction is underway, with completion expected July 2026.
